Diego Espinal
Diego Espinal is a director in the technology investment banking group at Piper Sandler and helps lead the firm’s financial technology investment banking practice. Espinal brings 11+ years of experience to this role.
Espinal specializes in providing strategic advice to payments, banking technology, financial software, fraud and insurance technology, data analytics and AI-driven companies serving the financial services ecosystem. He has advised clients on a wide range of M&A and capital raising transactions, including Rev Worldwide on its carve-out acquisition of Netspend from Global Payments; Betterview on its sale to Thoma Bravo/Nearmap; Mindbridge on its recapitalization and minority equity investment by PSG Equity; and The Guarantors on an investment by Portage; among others.
Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Espinal was a senior vice president at Jefferies and part of the financial technology practice. Previously, Espinal was a senior financial technology banker at Houlihan Lokey. He began his career at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he advised on numerous global cross-border M&A and capital raising transactions for publicly-listed and privately-held companies across multiple industries.
Diego holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and international business and in business administration from Universidad ICESI in Colombia, where he graduated with cum laude honors.
