James Chiarelli

James Chiarelli is chief operating officer of Piper Sandler Finance, LLC and co-head of Piper Sandler & Co. debt capital markets. He has more than 20 years of experience in debt capital markets and structured and project finance, in addition to special situation and distressed asset investments.

In his role managing the Piper Sandler debt capital markets team, Chiarelli oversees capital-raising and financing activities for bank and public/private debt markets, in addition to working closely with the firm’s restructuring and equity private placement groups.

Chiarelli joined Piper Sandler from Macquarie Capital where he was a senior vice president in the special situations group. Previously, he spent 10 years at ABN AMRO in project and leveraged finance.

Chiarelli’s industry experience includes technology, media & telecommunications, power, oil & gas, mining, transportation, infrastructure, chemicals, retail and consumer products, hospitality and education in the U.S. and internationally. He has worked extensively with management, debtors-in-possession, secured lenders, trade creditors and bondholders.
