Matt Hemsley
Matt Hemsley is the CEO of Piper Heartland Healthcare Capital, the chairman of the Heartland Summit and manages the Heartland Healthcare Crossover Fund. He also serves as a managing director at Piper Sandler.
Previously, Hemsley was a managing director on the healthcare team at Piper Sandler. Since he joined the firm in 2010, Hemsley has been a leader on dozens of healthcare transactions, from M&A to IPOs and alternative financings, and spanning medical devices, biopharma and healthcare services and technology. His significant healthcare relationships are most evident in his leadership role as the chairman of the Heartland Summit – one of the most significant annual gatherings of healthcare CEOs and investors in the industry. Among his other roles at Piper Sandler, Hemsley serves on the board of the Piper Sandler Foundation.
Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Hemsley worked at McKinsey & Company and started his career at Goldman Sachs.
Hemsley graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University; he holds a master’s degree with distinction in economic history from the University of Oxford, Magdalen College; and he received his Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University.
Hemsley serves on the board of directors of Cooledge Lighting (an ARCH Ventures portfolio company), Soigne Hospitality (holding company for three restaurants and a catering operation in Minneapolis) and is a Trustee of Breck School. He is a former board member of the Guthrie Theatre, the Stanford Business School Fund and the Greater Twin Cities United Way.
