Matt Schmitz

Matt Schmitz is a managing director at Piper Sandler on the municipal special situations team. In this role, he is focused on covering mutual funds, money managers and hedge funds in the high yield and structured products sectors. Schmitz is also responsible for developing creative capital raising solutions for Piper Sandler’s public finance specialty sectors, primarily special districts, tax increment financing, hospitality, project finance, senior living, healthcare, transportation and charter schools.

Schmitz began his career at Reliastar bank and has held several positions over the years. He joined Piper Sandler in June 2000.

Schmitz holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and communications from St. John’s University and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of St. Thomas.
