Richard Herr is a managing director in the financial services group at Piper Sandler.
Previously, he was a managing director in the investment banking group of Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P. where he provided strategic advice to clients across the deals spectrum and specialized in the brokerage and trading, market structure and financial technology sectors.
Prior to joining Sandler O’Neill, Herr was managing director and head of business development at Knight Capital Group. In this role, Herr partnered with senior management to lead the analysis and execution of all organic and inorganic growth initiatives at the firm. Prior to his tenure with Knight Capital Group, Herr served as senior vice president, strategic and business development at Investment Technology Group, Inc. where he was responsible for evaluating strategic partnership and acquisition opportunities.
Herr began his career in equity research, with his most recent role being senior vice president, head of securities brokerage, exchange and trade execution research at Keefe Bruyette & Woods. In 2006, Herr was named Best on the Street by The Wall Street Journal and the #1 Stock Picker by Forbes/StarMine for the Capital Markets sector.
Herr received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University.
