Piper Jaffray Expands Fixed Income Product Capability
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct 19, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Piper Jaffray announced today that it has expanded its fixed income sales and trading capability into preferred and capital securities with the addition of a seasoned team. The new team, which has more than 50 years of combined experience in the industry, is based in New York. Martyn Ball, managing director, joined the firm as head of preferred and capital securities. Barry Scoville Jr., principal, joined as a preferred trader, and Kevin Conery, principal, will provide strategy and analytical support.

Ball has 20 years of fixed income experience, both trading and marketing preferred and capital securities. Most recently, he was a founding partner of Peregrine Capital LLC, that became the fixed income division of Weeden & Co., where he led the investment grade and capital securities effort. Prior to that, he spent 11 years at Goldman Sachs where he was for responsible for distribution of hybrid capital and preferred, and seven years at Morgan Stanley, where he traded preferred securities and later helped establish a fixed income middle markets business. Ball graduated from St. Lawrence University.
Scoville has 11 years experience in preferred securities trading. He was most recently at Weeden & Co. Previously, he traded both preferred securities and capital securities at Merrill Lynch and UBS. Scoville earned a Bachelor of Economics degree from Rutgers University.
Conery has over 23 years of financial experience, having worked most recently at Merrill Lynch, and, prior to that, Lehman Brothers. Most of his career has been focused on preferred and capital securities from the research, marketing and investor perspectives. He is the former co-head of the U.S. Hybrid Securities Committee of the SIFMA and its predecessor, the Bond Market Association. He graduated Cum Laude from Boston College, and received his Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Albany.
